Today was Lucas' eye surgery. He was having surgery to unclog his tear ducts in both eyes. This is something that should typically clear up by the time a child is one year old. After that, it usually needs to be taken care of with a simple surgical procedure.
We fondly called it the "roto-rooter" surgery.
We scheduled the procedure at the Rockville Outpatient Surgical Center (which is part of Children's Hospital). There we went over the surgical procedures and everyone got in their surgical attire (Mommy & Daddy got gowns & hair covers, while Lucas got a surgical gown).
We took him into the operating room and were there while they put him under anthesia.
We went out to the waiting room and within 20 minutes, the eye doctor came out to say they were finished. We had to wait a little longer for Lucas to get into recovery before we could see him. Overall, I think it took us longer to get to the Center and home then we were actually in the office. He was grumpy when he came out of sedation, which was to be expected. I picked him up to comfort him and his nose started bleeding (this is an expected side effect of the surgery). Only problem is, Lucas didn't want to let us wipe his nose. So he proceeded to wipe his bloody nose all over Mommy's light blue shirt. Poor boy. I think that was probably the most traumatic part of the day, overall. He eventually calmed down & we gave him some food. He was a hungry boy! The surgery went well and it looks everything should be completely clear at this point. No more weepy eyes!
