Lucas was supposed to have his "boy part" surgery today to do a circumcision repair and close up his communicating hydrocele. However, he started having a runny, snotty nose and sounding congested on Tuesday night. Who knows if it had anything to do with his H1N1 vaccine he got on Monday and waiting outside to get the shot, but either way he was not in ideal shape come Wednesday morning. We were scheduled for first case, which required us to leave the house around 4:45 AM in order to arrive for check in by 6:30 AM at the hospital. They got us back into pre-op, we got Lucas gowned up & they took his vitals. Once the anesthesiologist & the surgeon came to check on him, they both decided, along with us, that it was in Lucas' best interest to re-schedule the procedure. Since he wasn't feeling 100% & the procedure was elective, it would be best to wait until he was feeling better & not deal with the risk of putting him under anesthesia. All they had to do was mention the possibility of the complications, including needing a ventilator afterwards for any period of time, we certainly agreed to wait! When that decision was made, we immediately let Lucas eat. He was happy to have his snack & get re-dressed. We went down & visited Mommy's co-workers in Speech & Hearing. After that, we drove over to Daddy's work & visited them. Looks like the surgery will probably be re-scheduled for the beginning of May, when I'll be off on maternity leave. This was our best option, instead of taking off extra time from work before the baby comes. Although it was a serious change in what we had planned, we know it was in our little boy's best interest.
